Howdy Residents,
I wish you all a very Happy New Year!!! I am Anand Narayanan, a PhD candidate with the Department of Biology. I am originally from India and have been residing in University Apartments for more than two years. I really enjoy being a part of this diverse community.
I am currently serving as Senator in the 61st session of the Student Senate. It is a great honor to be the first Senate Representative for University Apartments.
During the Fall semester, the Senate was addressed by some very important personalities from Texas A&M University and the City of College Station and Bryan. Texas A&M President Dr. Elsa Murano, 23rd President of Texas A&M University, was in attendance during the October 8th Senate meeting. I had the good fortune to meet and talk to her. She was very personable.
She inquired about the University Apartments and extends her warm regards to all the residents. The picture enclosed was taken that evening before she addressed the senate.
In her presentation to the Senate, Dr. Murano gave a detailed account of the current affairs of the University. She also stated that her goal is to make A&M the top public University in the nation by the year 2020. She outlined five key areas in which A&M has to improve to achieve the goal. It is called the AGGIE plan, A for Academic quality, G for Globalization, G for Great Value, I for Infrastructure and E for Enlightened governance. For more information on Dr. Murano’s address to the Senate, please see the Battalion on October 10, 2008.
Serving as a Senator has helped me become aware of challenges and developments at A&M. It is a wonderful way to stay connected and to serve the student community. It also offers a unique opportunity to understand the developments in the twin cities of College Station and Bryan.
