The speaker  of the senate is Mr. Cody T. Vasut. There are 60 senators representing 17 different caucuses. The senate meets every alternate Wednesdays at 7pm in Koldus Governance room. The meetings usually last for 2 to 4 hours. During these meetings, we discuss important aspects concerning the students of Texas A&M University. In the senate meeting held on September 24, 2008, Mr. Mike Spiers, the Student Body President of TAMU-Galveston addressed us and explained the devastation and hardships due to hurricane Ike. I sent out an email to the listserve of University Apartments generating awareness about the situation and also about a donation program on-campus to help Sea-AGGIES. I was contacted by residents expressing interest in the donation program. I sincerely thank all residents who made donations to help our fellow AGGIES in the time of need.

Being a part of the Student Senate helped me become aware of the challenges and developments at A&M. It is a wonderful way to stay connected with the student population at A&M and to serve the student community.
