Howdy !
I am Anand Narayanan, a graduate student in the Department of Biology. I moved into Hensel apartments early last year.
What I have enjoyed most about being a resident of the University Apartments (UA) is the rich diversity within the community. In addition the various events organized by the University Apartment Community Council (UACC) provide an ideal environment for residents to interact and learn from residents of other cultures.
Some advantages I’ve experience while living at UA include the ability to choose a furnished or unfurnished apartment, free cable, internet, local phone, gas and water. Overall, the expenses are manageable on a graduate student budget.
The maintenance staff at UA does an excellent job by being very prompt and being on-call even on weekends. Moreover, UA is close to campus, the area is connected by walkways and is a green neighborhood. Since the TAMU horticultural gardens is close by I am able to enjoy a relaxing walk in the garden after a hectic day at school. UA is a great place for families. There is a park and a playground for children.
The Becky Memorial Childcare center located close to the apartment complex is a boon for working parents.
The UA also offers garden plots for residents to try their hand at gardening. I would like to take this opportunity to invite residents who are interested in gardening to join us in the ‘Community Garden Project’. In collaboration with Dr. Novak of the Horticultural Department, the UACC is developing a community garden.
Residents interested or want to learn about gardening are welcome to join us in this project. If you are interested in setting up your own garden, you can avail the expert opinion of professionals from the Horticulture Department who are helping us in preparing the community garden.
University Apartments Community Council holds a General Body meeting every month. It is during these meetings that all important decisions concerning the community are made. We also invite speakers from different departments/organizations. The meeting is a good place for residents to raise issues and voice opinions. I invite all residents to take part in the monthly meetings. This will help us serve you better.
